How To Dress Well ‘& It Was U’

Oh, yes. Wonderfully stripped back and soulful, with a totally weird video which, although fun to watch, I found the track much more uplifting without it. Just saying.

Switch off the Christmas tunes on the radio and remember what summer felt like. The nineties beat that kicks in halfway through is just awesome. Toe-tapping time.

1000 cool points.

Kendrick Lamar ft. Lady Gaga ‘Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe’

There are various rumours about why the original demo with Gaga never made the final cut on Kendrick’s record, but either way someone sensibly rethought that decision, and made a video (and probably had someone fired).

This. Is. Awesome.

Kendrick for President.

The Strypes ‘Got Love If You Want It’

Can we just talk about this for a second please- the four members of this band are aged between 14 and 16. Actually. And they’re really talented. One Direction and the rest of you take note, there are some impressive young guns out there and they’re coming for you. This band will inevitably and immediately be compared to Jake Bugg, which is no bad thing with all the hype he’s getting at the moment.

Both are revisiting and revitalising proper, stripped back, old school Rock ‘n’ Roll. The Strypes have a proper bluesy feel too.

1000 congratulations-for-not-being-another-shit-boyband cool points.

Doldrums ‘She is the Wave’

I think I might find this song a bit much- it sounds like what would happen if Crystal Castles sort of lost their minds, but based on the video alone this still earns 1000 cool points.

Feed Me & Crystal Fighters ‘Love is All I Got’

Gahhh I’ve been waiting for this track to be available to the world since Zane Lowe played it on his radio show a couple of months back. Reminiscent of when Crystal Fighters first burst on to the scene with ‘Champion Sound’, this is upbeat, mesmeric, and full of that brilliant Hispanic electronic sound that is so distinctively theirs.

Love.

1000 worth the wait cool points

Boys Noize ft. Snoop Dogg ‘Got It’

Boys Noize releases his new album ‘Out of the Black’ today and it is HEAVY. I am still a bit sad that the epic, dirty Berlin electro tracks of Boys Noize past have seemingly been replaced with a deeper, dubbier sound on much of the album, but there are still some brilliant tracks on here, and if we’re going to show this week who’s BOSS, let’s kick off Monday with this shall we?

AlunaGeorge ‘Watching Over You’

I totally LOVE AlunaGeorge. Every single track they have made so far has been brilliant, and hence has appeared on this blog, and will continue to do so until they make something not brilliant, which I hope never happens.

Enjoy.

Sky Ferreira ‘Everything is Embarrassing’

This is a really, really brilliant song. Since hearing this for the first time I have woken up with it in my head every morning.

Ferreira is only 20 and has already been making music since she was 15. She has had a few changes of direction (understandably) in that time, but this feels very grown up, and very f*cking cool.

She’s got an ep coming out soon and I’m excited about it.

1000 precocious but it’s fine cool points

Crystal Castles ‘Wrath of God’

Just a modestly titled track to lead up to the next album, then. This is Wrath of God from Crystal Castles’ forthcoming album (III), and it’s big, in a sort of 5am at a rave everyone is off their nut and there’s a strobe light sort of a way.

Do not listen on a hangover. Do listen in all other scenarios.

1000 welcome-back-Crystal-Castles cool points

D E N A ‘Cash, Diamond Rings, Swimming Pools’

Big up my pal Georgia LA for introducing me to this one- I CANNOT GET IT OUT OF MY HEAD. Summary: The Bulgarian MIA.

Enjoy.
